Cult of Cricket in India!

It is the enticing nature of the game, which has made cricket a household name across the world, and there are no signs of its popularity waning with time. Tournaments like world cup and T-20 are getting a fabulous response. India is 1 of the most admired players team in world cricket. Indian cricket team has its own charm and well-known participants like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Sunil Gavaskar have added several feathers to its cap.

Both national and regional squads make up Indian cricket. Each state in India has its own regional cricket team and all these teams take part in many tournaments like Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy. The best players from these regional cricket teams move forward and get opportunity to prove themselves at international level. The highest determining authority of cricket in India is a body called The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), who are not only the determining authority of the national team but also handle issues like sponsorship and personal roles of participants who participate in the national team for cricket. Apart from the BCCI, each state has its own cricket board that conducts and controls state level teams and also prepares good players for future responsibilities. Unnecessary to mention that the region level governments have a major role to play in building the national teram and of late magnificent and youthful participants like Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh and Pathan have moved into the scene with the help of region level governments.

It was a matter of great national pride and honor when in 1932 the Indian cricket squad was recognized as a test squad and they were asked to play the first test cricket with England at Lords – and they came out with flying colors. After that day Indian participants never looked back and went on making and breaking records. Furthermore, India has the distinction of winning the world cup in 1983 as well as the Y20 world cup recently and the test victory against England played in Madras in 1952. Later on, that same year, the team won initial test series, which was against Pakistan. This was 1 of the most memorable moments for the country and cricket history and the team kept on developing their performance through the ten years.

With the start of 1-day international cricket since 1971, the game has acquired a brand new order of magnitude. To start India was not very strong in ‘1 Day Internationals’, which ended in a consecutive number of lost games, therefore they did not manage to qualify for the second round in the initial two cricket world cups. However, every Indian cricket fan knows that there is nothing that can stop the squad from getting what it deserves. Perhaps, it is their heartily wishes and support that made the Indian squad the world cup winner in 1983 and gave all Indians a reason to celebrate cricket.
