FAQ
System Requirements: What do I need?

SportsBLOX only needs a web browser with Java (version 1.4 or later) and an Internet connection.  If your web browser doesn't already have Java installed, you can get it at http://www.java.com.  (It's free!)  SportsBLOX has been tested on Macs, PCs, and Linux machines.  Supported browsers include Firefox and Internet Explorer.  SportsBLOX should work on other systems and browsers.

The SportsBLOX World: What do I do?

What do you mean by "SportsBLOX Beta"?

A beta or a beta test is a trial run before the full-fledged launch.  It is very helpful in the later stages of development to have fresh eyes take a look around and give us some feedback. That way we can be sure we are headed in the right direction and if we are not, we can make changes now. Think of this as our spring training.  And please use our suggestion link to let us know right away what you think!

How do I start?

First, you'll need to sign up.  Signing up is quick and easy.  Click on the JOIN link on the home page.   First, we'll ask for some basic information.  Then you'll build the character you want to be in the SportsBLOX world (aka your avatar, in virtual worldspeak).  Finally you'll have the opportunity to tell the SportsBLOX world what your sports interests are.  This information is optional, but it will help you find fans that want to talk about what YOU want to talk about.

Once that's all done, you will be able to enter the SportsBLOX world.

Where can I go?

The SportsBLOX world has a lot of places where you can go to talk about sports.  There are bars, delis, pizza joints, and restaurants.  You can walk around and just go into a place that looks interesting.  Or you can click on the directory button.  Or you can look for a place that has people who are interested in the sports you're interested in by clicking the search button.

How do I chat?

Just start typing.  (Note: With some browsers, you might need to click on yourself before you can start talking.)

What else is there to do?

We're just getting started.  In the coming weeks, we'll be adding games, celebrity shows, and, since we're a virtual world, many more places, ways to find people, and ways to have that great sports debate with sports fans from all over the world.

Why can't I enter an establishment?

Entrance to some establishments is restricted by age. For example, you must be 21
or older to enter a bar, but there are no age restrictions for restaurants.

BLOXbux: What about money?

The SportsBLOX bank isn't open yet.  Soon, you'll be able to get BLOXbux to spend on things like virtual goods and special events.

Real Bux: What does it cost?

Basic membership in SportsBLOX is free.  In the future, you'll be able to buy virtual goods and premium memberships.  For real bux, of course.

BLOXrank: How do I know if someone knows what they're talking about?

Note: BLOXrank is not available during the SportsBLOX Beta.

What is BLOXrank?

Just like in the real world, some people in SportsBLOX know more than others.  How can you tell?  By their BLOXrep!  Almost everything you can do in SportsBLOX can earn BLOXrank Points (BrPs).  You can earn BrPs ("Burps") by playing our BLOXtrivia and BLOXfutures games.  Or by earning a "Thumbs Up" (Graphic) from another BLOXhead.  But be careful, if you're a loser at the games or if you get too many "Thumbs Down" ratings, you'll quickly see your BLOXrank go down to the cheap seats.  But if you build up your BLOXrank, you'll earn VIP privileges, such as admission to VIP-only events.  Plus, you'll find that people want to talk to YOU!

How can I tell what my BLOXrank is?

Your BLOXrank is part of your BLOX identity.  It is always shown in your SportsBLOX control panel. (Image)  Your total number of points determines your rank - Amateur, Rookie, Veteran, All-Star, and Hall of Famer.  Your VIP privileges increase with your rank, of course.  The green bar tells you where you stand against all other SportsBLOX players.  Every week, some of the top SportsBLOX players will be selected to host their own sports talk shows.  Want to be the next big sports talk show host?  Get your start here!

How can I tell what someone else's BLOXrank is?

When you move your mouse over someone, you'll see that person's name and their BLOXrank.

What is the yellow card?

The yellow card is given as a warning for behavior that violates the SportsBLOX community standards. While a yellow card is in effect, you cannot chat. Two yellow cards may result in ejection from SportsBLOX.

What is that whistle?

Members of the SportsBLOX staff wear the SportsBLOX whistle. Feel free to ask them questions!

How about safety?

Safety Tips
